Why the hotel barely changes the price

The whole downtown core sits within about five kilometres of itself, and the drive to Pearson is 25 km on top of that. So the gap between the cheapest and dearest hotel on the list is $11 in a sedan. Hotel X, out by Exhibition Place, is closest to the airport. The Chelsea, north of Queen, is the furthest.

What does move the price is the car, not the address. A sedan takes three passengers and two large cases. The SUV and the Escalade take six passengers and four cases, for about $35 and about $75 more respectively. If your group or your luggage is near the limit, that is the decision worth making.

When to leave the lobby

Work backwards from the flight:

  • Be at the terminal two hours before a domestic flight, three before a US or international one.
  • Add the drive: 20 to 30 minutes on clear roads, and considerably more between about 7 and 9 in the morning or 4 and 7 in the afternoon.
  • Add a margin for the bell desk, the lift and checking out.

In practice that means leaving the lobby around three hours before a domestic departure and four before an international one. Our pickup-time guide works through the arithmetic with drive times across the GTA.

How a hotel pickup works

Book with the hotel name and the guest name on the booking. Your chauffeur’s name and number arrive the day before, so you know who is coming, and the car is at the hotel entrance at the time you set. There is no meter running while you settle the bill, because the fare was agreed when you booked.

If you are booking for someone else — a client, a colleague, a visiting executive — put their name and mobile number on the booking. The chauffeur greets them by name, and the confirmation and receipt still come to you. Companies that do this often run a monthly account instead of paying per trip, through our corporate transportation service.

Coming the other way, from Pearson

Arriving is the same fare in reverse, with the flight tracked. Give us the flight number and your chauffeur meets you inside the arrivals hall with a name sign: Level 1 opposite the customs exit at Terminal 1, or beside the currency exchange at Terminal 3. International arrivals get 60 minutes of free waiting from touchdown and domestic arrivals get 30, which covers customs and the baggage belt.

Not sure which terminal you are landing at? Our Terminal 1 vs Terminal 3 guide lists every airline at Pearson. For all the ways into the city, including the UP Express and the airport’s own taxi tariffs, see Pearson to downtown Toronto.
